Attorney Spencer has been in private practice since 2013, providing criminal defense services to clients in Denton County, Collin County, Dallas County, Texas and throughout the United States. Before arriving at the Law Offices of Jeffrey C. Grass, he served as a felony trial prosecutor for over three years with the 47th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, based in Amarillo, Texas. He is extremely well versed on the strategies and tactics that prosecutors utilize when trying a case.
Attorney Spencer holds an undergraduate degree from Baylor University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2005 with a very impressive grade point average of 3.9. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism and history. An avid sports fan and writer, he worked for The Baylor Lariat as a sports journalist. He also has a musical side, and enjoyed playing the trombone in Baylor University’s Golden Wave Marching Band and the Courtside Players basketball band.
After graduating with his undergraduate degree, he enrolled in Baylor Law School, specializing in criminal law and finally earning his degree in 2009. Additionally, he was also a member of Sigma Tau Gamma during his time at Baylor.
Attorney Spencer’s primary area of focus is criminal defense. He defends those accused of crimes ranging from minor municipal violations up to high-level felonies. The judges of Collin County qualified Attorney Spencer to serve as court-appointed counsel for misdemeanors, state jail felonies, third-degree felonies, second-degree felonies, and first-degree felonies. Mr. Spencer is also qualified to handle court appointments for juvenile cases in Collin County.
Attorney Spencer is also an accomplished trial attorney. During his time in Amarillo, he secured jury convictions for offenses ranging from felony theft and drug possession to first-degree murder. As a criminal defense lawyer, Attorney Spencer has defended those wrongfully accused of crimes they did not commit. He has had success in obtaining “Not Guilty” verdicts for crimes including: assault family violence, failure to register as a sex offender, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Attorney Spencer knows what it takes to try and defend cases because he’s seen and experienced what it takes to prosecute and defend a case. This includes working as a grand jury prosecutor; as a grand jury prosecutor Attorney Spencer worked with law enforcement to gather the evidence necessary to indict felony cases. He also filtered cases he knew could not be prosecuted due to a lack of evidence, and now he uses that knowledge to hold the State accountable and make sure they don’t falsely convict his clients.
Since 2014, Attorney Spencer has been an active member of the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association. Additionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association.
When he’s not representing his clients and formulating defense strategies, Wesley can be found spending time with his lovely wife and their two-year-old daughter. He also considers himself a firearms enthusiast and an avid sports fan, always cheering for his favorite teams from Dallas and Kansas City. He also enjoys watching Formula 1 racing on Sunday mornings after his daughter wakes him up before the sunrise.
